Vehicular Mounted Mine Detector
(VMMD) Contract

On 2 June 1998, Jaycor (now the Titan Corporation) was notified by the U.S. Army of a follow-on contract award. The new contract is for the research and demonstration of a forward looking sensors package technology for a Vehicular Mounted Mine Detector (VMMD).

This VMMD vehicle is being developed at our Comanche Facility in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and testing is taking place in Socorro, New Mexico at the New Mexico Institute of Mining Technology. The Advanced Technologies Group (formerly Jaycor) teamed with Sanders, a Titan Company in Nashua, New Hampshire, on both the follow-on and the original contracts.

A forward looking sensors package has been under prototype development for two years, under the current Army contract. This new contract, like the current contract, was competitively awarded to identify and develop unique technologies for the stand-off detection of land mines and unexploded ordnance. The system has applications in both military operations and humanitarian land mine cleanup. The stand-off sensors package includes both a forward looking ground penetrating radar (GPR) and a forward looking infrared (FLIR). The new contract will continue the development of the forward looking sensors package while adding new initiatives in stand-off range extension and communications data links.
